Cumbrian food for Farmhouse Breakfast Week - January 2006 | It is NFU Farmhouse Breakfast Week from 21 – 28 January and Distinctly Cumbrian, a programme delivered by Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency, is working with Cumbria Tourism to encourage local businesses, as well as individuals at home, to source locally and to make the local connections. “We’re working together to encourage anyone providing breakfast for visitors to use Cumbrian produce and to tell people about it,” explains Ian Winchester, Distribution Officer for Distinctly Cumbrian. “But Farmhouse Breakfast Week is for everyone and it is a good opportunity for people here in Cumbria to try something local and new – an unusual jam or preserve, a sausage made down the road or local free range eggs – and to support local businesses into the bargain.” Jon Reed, Procurement Officer for Distinctly Cumbrian , continues: “As well as the more obvious sausage, bacon and eggs, we also have black puddings, excellent breads, preserves and more unusual breakfast products like Lizzie’s Homemade Cumbrian Frutta Cotta here on our door step. The project with Cumbria Tourism is highlighting this to hoteliers and bed and breakfast owners but the same high-quality, fresh produce is available to anyone through many of our local retailers and farmers’ markets.” | | Recommended sources of Cumbrian food information with details of where to buy include: www.discovercumbria.net www.artisan-food.com www.tasteofthelakes.com www.cumbriaorganics.org
